Software Tester
Job Summary:
The tester’s main goal is to discover and communicate problems with the product that could adversely impact its value. The tester must understand the context for the project and help others to make informed decisions based on this context. A key goal for the tester is to find and report the significant bugs in the product by testing the product. Once a bug is found, it is also the tester’s job to accurately communicate its impact and describe any workaround solutions that could lessen its impact. The tester makes bug descriptions and steps for recreating the bugs easy to understand and follow. The tester participates with the entire team in setting the quality standards for the product. The purpose of testing is to prove that known functions work correctly and to discover new product issues.
Duties & Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following::
- Create clear, concise, detail oriented test scripts and test cases based on functional specifications
- Investigate and report issues to project stakeholders
- Liaise with development, product management and customer stakeholders where necessary
- Perform both new functionality and regression tests; identify, analyze and report issues for follow-up
- Ensure the integrity of test material
- Work with other departments to monitor and improve quality processes
- Perform customer facing business analyst duties on occasion
- Other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Good analytical, problem solving and judgment skills
- Experience with MS SQL is preferred
- A passion for technology and the ability to work and learn independently in a changing environment is a must
Credentials & Experience:
- 2-year college diploma in a software related discipline or equivalent
- 2 years (minimum) testing or analyst related experience
- Some experience in the financial services industry is required
- Excellent knowledge of QA test methodologies and practices
- Experience with MSF development processes, banking or automation with Compuware tools is an asset
